Firestarter (the app you get into when you hit the home button) has stopped working on some people’s fire sticks.   Amazon no longer wants this program to run, they want you to go to their “home page” instead.  Kodi still works just fine.

To go into kodi without using firestarter, you will need to go to (from the regular amazon home screen) Settings > Applications > Manage Installed Applications > Kodi > Launch Application.

You may get a message saying that you have “exceeded the device registration limit”.  This is because we use the same dummy account on everyone’s fire stick.  Which was not a problem in the past as you didn’t really have to use the main amazon home page.   You will now have to register the device with your own amazon account (it does not have to be an amazon prime account).

To change the Amazon account do the following:

  1. From the Amazon home screen, go to Settings
  2. Click the circle right until you see My Account, then click the center circle.
  3. Click Amazon Account.
  4. Click Deregister. Give it a few seconds to deregister.
  5. The next screen will either let you use your existing amazon account (Register) or create a new amazon account (Create an account)
